Consultation for Lines & Wrinkles

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine used to temporarily reduce lines and wrinkles. Our goal is always a natural-looking outcome — ideal for subtle, effective changes.

About this treatment

Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring purified protein injected into the muscles to relax them. Muscles in the face contract, and over time this causes lines and wrinkles to form; treatment temporarily stops these muscles from contracting. It is a quick, safe, non-invasive treatment that smooths wrinkles and creates a refreshed look — without the appearance of having had treatment at all.

As a prescription-only medicine, treatment always begins with a face-to-face consultation with a prescribing medical professional. At The Private Clinic Swansea treatment is only ever carried out by a doctor or nurse. These injections can also help with excess sweating, migraines, teeth grinding and shoulder tension.

Treatment is delivered only by experienced medical practitioners, using a 'less is more' philosophy — we would always rather preserve natural facial movement than over-treat.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe? +
When administered by a qualified healthcare professional, anti-wrinkle injections are generally considered very safe. At The Private Clinic Swansea treatments are only carried out by committed medical practitioners, who keep up to date on the safest and most effective techniques through continued professional development.
Are the injections painful? +
The treatment should be virtually painless. We use the INVISIBLE NEEDLE™, which makes treatment almost pain-free — most patients describe a slight scratch lasting a fraction of a second. No local anaesthetic is required and there is no downtime.
How do anti-wrinkle injections work? +
Very tiny amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into the muscle, where it blocks nerve impulses and prevents the muscle from contracting. The result is reduced muscle movement, smoothing out lines and wrinkles.
When will I see results? +
Results are usually seen after 3–7 days, with the full effect visible a few weeks after treatment. Our goal is to preserve enough facial movement for a natural look — we would always prefer to use too little initially than too much. If you feel you need a little more, this can be done at weeks 3–4.
How long do results last? +
On average, results typically last around 3 to 4 months, during which the muscles gradually begin to move again. Longevity varies from patient to patient, and treatment can be repeated every 3–4 months but no sooner than 12 weeks.
Are there any side effects? +
Individual responses vary, and like any medical procedure there are potential mild risks. Some patients experience mild bruising or swelling at the injection site, which usually settles within minutes to a couple of days. Our medical team will discuss this fully at your consultation.
Is there any aftercare? +
Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for a few hours, and avoid anything causing excessive blood flow to the face — strenuous exercise for four hours, steam rooms or saunas. We advise against applying make-up for 24 hours after treatment.
Is there a good age to start? +
There is no 'right' age. Some people in their 40s and 50s have very few expression lines; some already have deep expression lines in their mid-to-late 20s. We always look at the patient and their concerns — not their chronological age.
Is there any reason I couldn't have treatment? +
If you have a medical condition that can affect safety, such as damaged nerves or muscle issues, it's important to disclose this at consultation. We do not treat patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Beyond this, the most important thing is to be properly assessed for suitability by a qualified medical practitioner.
