Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions.

How long will the effects of a B12 shot last? +
The effects of vitamin B12 injections vary between individuals. Most people feel the effects for about one week. The nutrients we provide are water-soluble; the only water-soluble nutrient that has the capability of being stored in the body is vitamin B12, so whatever your body doesn’t readily utilise it will store for later use. If your body stores are full, the B12 your body doesn’t need will be excreted in the urine, which may appear to be pink-ish.
How is a B12 shot different than taking an oral supplement? +
Many people have trouble with nutrient absorption—from supplements or food—due to the presence of intestinal inflammation, poor gut health, or a deficiency of intrinsic factors—glycoprotein produced in the stomach that’s essential for B12 absorption. Injecting nutrients intramuscularly sidesteps this issue by delivering nutrients directly to the cells, feeding your body instantaneously for immediate utilisation.
What are the side effects of B12 injections? +
The B12 injection is generally very safe. However, some people may experience some pain, swelling or redness at the injection site, and in much rarer cases headaches, itching or nausea.
How often should I have them? +
Depending on the severity of symptoms and or blood results you may need them weekly to begin with and then every month-3 monthly you can discuss your treatment plan with our nurse.
Is the injection painful? +
The injection is a tiny needle which is barely felt, some patients experience a little sting when the solution is injected.
Do you need a blood test before having B12 injections? +
It is not essential to have a blood test however we recommend it to assess where your levels are. You can have this done at the GP and bring the results to us to see or we can do a blood test for you.
