Frequently asked questions.

How much weight do you lose on weight loss injections? +
All patients are different and will respond differently to medications, however, as a rule of thumb, we see patients on Wegovy® and Mounjaro® losing approximately 2% of their body weight over a 4 week period of using the injections. This would equate to someone who is 200 pounds losing 5 pounds in the first month. Individual results will vary and can be impacted by diet and exercise.
How will I know if I am suitable for weight loss injections? +
Your BMI will be one of the indicators we use to see if you are suitable for Wegovy® or Mounjaro®. BMI or body mass index is a calculation that uses your height, weight and age to establish whether you have a healthy weight. A healthy weight will sit between 18.5 and 24.9 for most people. If your BMI is 30 or greater, or if you have weight related conditions, you may be suitable for weight loss injections.
Can I get Mounjaro® on the NHS? +
Unfortunately Mounjaro® is not available on the NHS. The only weight loss injections you can access on the NHS is Wegovy®. If you would like to use Mounjaro® you will need to get a prescription from a clinic like The Private Clinic Swansea.
Can I drink alcohol whilst on Wegovy®? +
We wouldn’t recommend drinking alcohol while using Wegovy® or Mounjaro®. Alcohol can increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting and reduce the effectiveness of weight loss injection drugs. Moderate alcohol consumption may be allowed for some patients, but it is important to check with a medically qualified healthcare professional first.
Will I gain weight after my weight loss treatment? +
Some patients do gain weight when they come off Wegovy® or Mounjaro®, that is why we prescribe these weight loss injections alongside nutritional and lifestyle planning. Patients who eat healthily and exercise while on a weight loss programme are a lot more likely to keep the weight off when they come to the end of their treatment plan.
