Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions.

How does thread vein removal work? +
Thread veins, spider naevi and cherry spots are conditions where small veins become visible on the skin’s surface. During treatment by laser and light systems, energy is absorbed by the blood vessels that make up these imperfections. This absorption process breaks down the vessel walls, and following an effective treatment the body recognises these broken vessels as waste and removes them from the skin naturally.
Does thread vein removal hurt? +
It is a very well tolerated treatment, patients describe it as an elastic band flick, it lasts seconds.
How long does laser vascular treatment take? +
Each treatment is different depending on the area being treated but on average between 15-30 minutes.
Are there any side effects? +
If a large area is treated there can sometimes be a small amount of redness visible for a little while after and the area can feel a little warm.
Is there any aftercare needed? +
A cold flannel can be used if the area is warm. Avoid taking any anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication for 7 days after treatment this is to ensure the treatment is as successful as possible. Avoid smoking and alcohol for at least two hours before and after treatment. Try to avoid using make-up for the rest of the day unless it is our mineral-based make-up. Do not use harsh skincare products for two days after treatment. Avoid tanning beds or sunbathing for at least 7 days after treatment.
